In the step down area, patients will continue their recovery process.  He/she will be given something to drink and eat.  Patients will continue to be assessed and pain medications will be given when appropriate.  Our staff will give the patient discharge instructions.  Once the patient is in step down, family members and friends may visit briefly.  Discharge instructions, which include what the patient may or may not do, are given at this time.  It is important that a family member or friend hear and understand these instructions as well as the patient.  After such a busy day, it is very common for someone to forget a portion of their instructions.  In a short period of time, the patient will be ready to go home.
